Different, Unusual and Unique Venues
Your decision making in choosing a venue should pay close attention to the old design adage that "form should always follow function". For example a high tech product launch might utilise a modern venue with an ambience that compliments the product or a railway museum. In comparison, an idea generation session might choose an unique or unusual venue, somewhere out of the way and different, like a lighthouse to boost original thought and to maximise productivity.
We often get requests for 'different venues' such as castles, chateaux, boats, museums, amusement parks, holiday camps, colleges... and lighthouses. These choices of unusual venue often add another dimension to a client's event, but it's not all plain sailing.
Often unusual venues will have drawbacks as well as drawbridges! Firstly if your chosen unique venue is open to the public, it is often only available during the evenings. This will restrict their use to dinner functions and other events where an evening event is suitable. Parking is often not available, which may be a big issue when your unusual venue of choice is quite remote. Because of their original function and age some of the more 'different venues' have access problems for the disabled. In addition, few will have in-house catering and some will not have meeting furniture - this will all have to be hired-in. You can also add licence and use restrictions and limited access for bulky items to the list of challenges to be overcome.
