Nottingham, a rising Conference star
Nottingham whilst hardly a latecomer to the conference scene, has become vastly more popular with the opening of The Nottingham Arena, one of the country's newest conference venues. It's a welcome addition to the large number of meeting rooms already in the area and has established Nottingham as a city well worth investigating.
Nottingham itself is part of the UK's Core Cities Group, which means the government has identified as being a 'driving force' in the economy. Obviously that means that a great deal of investment is taking place, three major areas The Eastside, The Waterside and The Southside are expected to grow dramatically whilst The Old Market Square in the heart of the city centre is also already becoming a signature open space for Nottingham.
That investment also means that the transport connections, already very good, are set to improve even further. Nottingham East Midlands Airport is only 30 minutes from the city centre, the M1 is close by and rail links mean all the major UK cities are within easy reach. Nottingham also runs a £200million Supertram system, so travel around the city is simple, clean and quick.
After dark, Nottingham buzzes with a nightlife that's rapidly becoming legendary. There are over 200 restaurants and of course many pubs and bars including one that claims the title, 'England's Oldest Inn'. Culture of a more restrained kind is also well served with excellent theatres such as The Victorian Theatre Royal, the modern Royal Concert Hall and the Nottingham Playhouse - one of the country's premier venues for contemporary theatre. There's even the Malt Cross Music Hall, fully restored to its 19th century glory, to bringing the spirit of the 1870's to today's very modern city.
